Ohio Makes Changes to Vent Programs in Nursing Facilities

Ohio's Medicaid office has updated its rule for ventilator programs in nursing facilities, adding coverage and requirements.
The state of Ohio has updated its rule for ventilator programs in nursing facilities (NF), adding Medicaid coverage for the new Complex Non-Invasive Ventilation Service and enhancing NF Vent Program requirements, along with changes “to bring consistency in the provision, billing, and reimbursement of services,” according to the Ohio Dept. of Medicaid.
Facilities interested in participating in the NF Vent Program must take the following time-sensitive actions when the new rule becomes effective beginning with Dec. 3 dates of service:
- All NFs interested in new or continued participation in the Medicaid NF Vent Program will need to submit a new program application via a new web portal site. Instructions have been provided at the top of the online application to advise applicants if they should select an “Initial” or “Renewal” application type.
- NFs should be prepared to provide the facility’s demographic and provider identification information, a copy of the NF’s detailed Vent Services Coverage Plan, which must include type of ventilator service(s) to be provided; number and location of beds; and staff credentials, availability and hours, and the date the NF will meet the vent staffing requirements in rule, among other criteria.
