Clif Porter, head of AHCA/NCAL, opened the group’s annual convention in Boston by focusing on what unites the sector.

In opening remarks to attendees of the AHCA/NCAL annual convention in Boston, the association’s President and CEO Clif Porter said when long-term care providers are unified, they are powerful and present a “credible voice to those in power.”

“We start culture-change movements, movements that improve care and lives. We lean on each other to get through the day, and we challenge each other to consider the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said in his remarks to the gathered audience.

Being in Boston during the nation’s 250th anniversary, he also spoke of the determination it took for the Founding Fathers to succeed against all odds.

“The American experiment was uncertain and imperfect from its inception. But they kept forging it, determined to make progress and set their own destiny. And that idea, coming together around a shared purpose to build something better, is part of our story too,” Porter said.

Ending his second year at the helm of AHCA/NCAL, Porter sat down with his predecessor Mark Parkinson last year in one of the first “Let’s Talk” episodes for Park Place. In that interview, he shared how the nursing home sector was able to score significant victories in his first year in office, notably by being excluded from the massive Medicaid cuts in the “Big Beautiful Bill,” the demise of the CMS staffing mandate, and expectations for a favorable Medicare payment number.
