The feds said SNFs lost 1,600 jobs in September when compared to the prior month, amid a national stagnation in employment levels.

Amid a national stall in job creation for September, the skilled nursing sector saw the number of people working for SNFs decline by 1,600 to a raw number of 1,587,400, versus 1,590,000 in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said on Friday.

When compared to the same month in 2025, the picture remains much rosier for SNF employment. September 2025 saw 1,557,300 employed in the sector, a 30,100 difference from the September 2026 level.

All numbers are seasonally adjusted.

For the country, BLS said U.S. employers added 29,000 jobs in September, and summer payrolls were revised lower. BLS now estimates 133,000 jobs were added in August and 10,000 jobs lost in July.

Wall Street had expected September to see an increase of 84,000 jobs.

The national unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2 percent in September, up from 4.1 percent in August.
